And on old crossroads, that time isn’t random. It has exactly the same time (that time isn’t randomly chosen, it was calculated so that traffic would get best flow).

But, the idea is nice, and I’m sure it could be used somewhere…

Let’s say that it is red for all. Then a car comes, and it turns green for him and for the pedestrians in the same direction. The duration of that green light cannot be RANDOM amount, because pedestrians need some time to cross the road, and they need to be confident that they will do it.

So the CPU controlling start of green light is OK, but that light still needs predictable, reliable, and have visible timing.

Nice idea with one big problem in design. Traffic lights on newer crossroads are designed in more intelligent way than ‘counting time before changing light’. On newer crossroads, there are sensors on roads, which are used by central CPU and lights are changed depending on traffic. If there’s no traffic at all, all lights in all directions would be red. As soon as single car approaches the crossroad, car’s directions gets green light and after it passes, it changes back to red again. So… counting time isn’t really an option on crossroads. But, discarding this little problem, this was a nice idea :)
