    Broken Mirror

    Thank God for the mirroring! And Ivoks for setting our server how it should be done. One Seagate Barracuda ES 500gb out, 6 more to go! How Croats would say: "Mali prosviro!" (Little guy played a tune). :)

    Productive monday

    The end of this Monday is finally here. Lots of stuff going on, and there is really no spare time to grab something to eat, not to mention - time to blog. Well, maybe some time. :)

    If you are, like some of us (and some not!) attending MAX Barcelona and have a Flash Lite-compatible phone, make sure you check out the MAX Barcelona 2007 Flash Lite mobile phone session guide.

    Jeff from 8bitrocket wrote an interesting article about implementing Mochiads in non-timeline based AS3 projects.

    Today is Environmental Blog Action Day. What would happen if every blog published posts discussing the same issue, on the same day? What could happen if I just knew that before? :) In heart and spirit of Environmental protection, Polygeek wrote great article about how optimized code could help reduce global warming. :) LOL!

    What else happened today? ThunderBolt v1.0 was released today. ThunderBolt is AS3 is a logging tool for Flex 2 and Flash CS3 applications using Firebug as its logging console. It comes in handy if you don't want to install debug version of Flash player (debug version which is buggy - debuggy). :)

    Nifty desktop app which I use often for playing FLV files built with mProjector 2 - FLV Player 2.0 was also released today. It's really shiny and nice, but beware, installer comes with tons of potential spyware and toolbars.

    Adobe Love and Adobe MAX Barcelona

    So, anyways, good things come to those who are a bit persistent, wait, and are a bit crazy. This week we got delivered, straight from Adobe, book called "Inside the Publishing Revolution", a book about Adobe - from start to almost present day (pre CS3 era) following the process of how it actually came to the point where you can type cool stuff in Photoshop with ease, press Print and it comes out of the printer nicely with zero sweat. Book is lovingly signed by company's founders, John Warnock and Chuck Geschke as a small token of our (mine) dedication to Adobe.

    Few hours after the book arrived, i received funny email from Adobe in which i am apparently invited to Adobe MAX 2007 Barcelona and Adobe will sponsor my flight, hotel and an entry fee. It was a bit freaky, since i saw this email on Tuesday and MAX is starting next Monday, meaning i have to fly away on Sunday. After few emails exchanged with Evgenia Mayer, i was rushing to book a plane and hotel in Barcelona. OK, let me tell you something. It is a bitch to book a flight and hotel on such a short notice - seemingly everyone attending MAX already booked all the possible hotels and flights. But, after 2 days of search i managed. I am both happy and sad, i am going to MAX -> HAPPY, but as an only member of Nivas crew due to technical issues (we are moving company location, drama drama drama) -> SAD.

    See you at MAX, if you are attending =)

    Embed this!

    New 2.0 beta version of SWFObject is out (previously known as flashobject, then swfobject, then SWFFix project). Over the years, it become the de-facto standard for embedding Flash/Flex content in xhtml friendly cross browser compliant valid way.

    The new version is a complete rewrite from SWFObject 1.5, so it needs to be tested like hell before officially launch because it will replace the older SWFObject and UFO scripts. And since they have Adobe involved, they will be including this embed system in the Adobe authoring tools in the future. GREAT NEWS! Meanwhile, grab the beta from google code.

  • Recent Papervision achievements

    Strict deadlines and gazillion other distractions completely distanced me from writing about important things... like Papervision3D for example! :) So, you probably already heard that Papervision3D got the award for the 3D category on the 17th Flashforward Film Festival. HELL YEAH! But, have you seen the awesome Spaceship Demo by C4RL05 from his FlashForward presentation? Mmmm! Sooo fineee!

    Also, you have to checkout Tim Knips incredible BVH mocap importer! Motion capturing is one of those things that allays impressed me, and seeing it work so good in Papervision, just blows my mind.

    Dynamic class names are neat

    Attaching movieclips to the stage in AS3 is easy. But what if we need to attach a movieclip with dynamically created name?
    var page:MovieClip = new ["page"+i]; // won't work :)

    But this will:

        var dynamicClass:String = "page" + i;
        var classRef:Class = getDefinitionByName(dynamicClass) as Class;
        var page:MovieClip = new classRef();
        addChild(page);

  • Hrvatska web posla

    If you know our language, and you are in web development business, you will find this link extremely amusing. If you don't speak croatian, the guy made a website for some caffee bar in Zagreb (hosting+flash site = 273 eur??) and the guys didn't pay him. He removed the site and posted his letter:
