    AS3 Kitchen – Timer and ENTER_FRAME

There is no mc.onEnterFrame in AS3 anymore, but there is something so much better - ENTER_FRAME event! Since pretty much everything in AS3 is event based, that makes perfect sense. There is also a new event based Timer class which replaces darn setInterval. The guru of ActionScripted motion - Keith Peters wrote a great post on subject of common misconceptions in usage.

Era of Flash demos (amiga rulez!)

Do you remember the good old days on Amiga? 68k assembly? Ring a bell? :) Amiga demo scene was pretty big, and innovative. Demos, intros, outros, cracktros, Silence, Rebels, Scoopex, Spaceballs... Anyways, Joa Ebert did one Amiga style demo in AS3 and presented it on the Flashconference in Germany. Check it out (4mb no preloader)! My personal favorite are random texts that show up flashing (addEventListener... hehe), real demo style! :)

    Pictaps

Checkout Pictaps, great 3D Flash 8 project by Masayuki Kido, brilliant motion designer from Japan. His digital toy #1 is absolutely amazing example of inverse kinematics and physics done in Flash.

  • AS2 to AS3 Preprocessor Converter

Big up to Patrick Mineault from 5 1/2 for writing this great helper utility. AS3 is not officially released yet, but Flash community is going on strong! Looking at the penetration stats, and having in mind expressinstall feature, It seems that Flash9 is just around the corner. This will come in handy too - ActionScript 2.0 Migration and official livedocs form Adobe. :)

Firefox and Flash SWF selection and focus problems

Luke Bayers from assertTrue addressed interesting Flash issue today. The bug is this: If I click around in the SWF application, and especially if I select a text input field at some point, I can no longer edit the Firefox Location bar (Address bar).

I noticed this some time ago, and was extremely annoyed by this "feature", but just couldn't pin point the reason for such weird behavior. First I thought it was due to some bug in Firefox, but after reading Lukes post, I'l dig into some more. Interesting enough, I checked his examples today on my laptop and DID NOT experience the problems. Strange I must say. Maybe a Firefox extension is causing this? Have to dig into it.

  • Hiring Hobos To Wait in Line for PS3

PS3 release in the States is delayed again, and mob is getting crazy! Some wait in lines, some pay homeless to wait for them, and some get killed in drive by waiting for PS3, including reporter. I never EVER had console, so I thought, it's time to get one. I will wait to see how Wii and PS3 will compare in the end.

Proudly running on Word Press, and above all, proudly using Comic Sans.
